Arrest Made In Sunrise Double Shooting

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A man wanted for a double shooting in Sunrise on Thursday has been taken into custody.

Thorne Jared Smith, 25, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder. During questioning Smith confessed to the shootings, according to police.

Both men were shot at the Preserve at Avery Lakes condo complex at 4086 North Pine Island Road. Police sealed off the complex and searched the area with dogs looking for the gunman.

Sunrise police spokeswoman Michelle Eddy said one of the men was shot in the back, the other in the head. Both were taken to Broward Health Medical Center where they were listed in critical condition.

Eddy did not say what prompted the shooting.

Smith has a record. In 2008, he was charged with battery with a deadly weapon and assault on a law enforcement officer. He was convicted and spent a little more than a year and half in prison.
