Arrest Made In Nuclear Engineer's Fatal Stabbing

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An arrest has been made in the fatal stabbing of a man leaving a house party in Miami.
Alexander Restrepo, 33, died Saturday morning, near SW 157th Court and SW 146th Terrace, following an assault by a group of people. Police said Alexander and his brother Chris left the party when they were attacked a few houses away.
Investigators believe Edwin Rios, 24, was part of that group.
Alexander suffered multiple stab wounds to his torso. Chris was struck in the head and hand, but managed to escape the melee.
Alexander, a nuclear engineer at the Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station, was the nucleus of this family.
"I knew my son was special, but I had no idea that he had impacted so many people," said Amparo Restrepo.
"He was the most selfless guy you never meet and he would teach me to be like him," added Chris Restrepo.
Rios, who faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, went before a judge Thursday.
In court, Rios's lawyer argued and the judge dropped the attempted murder charge for Chris's beating to a simple battery charge.
The Restrepos are glad about the arrest, but are still searching for answers.
"Please come forward with information. Our family is completely shattered. We would like a little bit of closure to seeing these thugs in jail," said Natalie Restrepo, Alexander's sister.
