Woman Bonds Out After Being Arrested In Fatal Hit And Run Of Boy, 17, In SW Miami-Dade

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The woman police say is responsible for a fatal hit and run that killed a 17-year-old jogger in Southwest Miami Dade, bonded out of jail Saturday.

Maria Rodriguez, 23, walked out of the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with her face covered and head down.

According to investigators, just about 5 a.m. Friday morning, Rodriguez was driving West bond on SW 152 Street in Southwest Miami Dade, when her car drove on the sidewalk and hit and killed 17-year-old Justin Rivera, then she left the scene.

"You just don't leave a human being on the side of the road like that, that person has a family," said Miami resident Orneil Pinto was in the area when the accident happened. "You struck somebody the lease you can do, it's the humane things to do, maybe the guy would have survived, give him a chance," added Pinto.

But officials say Rodriguez did the opposite and instead fled the scene without stopping to render aid or call 911.

The victim, Justin Rivera, is a Southridge Senior High School football player was pronounced dead on the scene.

He had been jogging at the time.

"This is very tragic, this is very sad, cars drive without control very fast speeding," added resident Stephanie Hernandez.
