Armed Robbery Leads To Standoff At Dade Market

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- An armed robbery in Miami-Dade led to a standoff with police and taxi cab driver injured.
Miami-Dade Police said they received a call about a man shot near NW 54th Street and N.W. 22nd Avenue just before 9 p.m. on Friday.
The armed robber was able to get away but the injured victim was able to track the bandit down at a market.
Officers said the victim, 63-year-old Terrence Guthrie, and customers in the market told them a "suspicious person" was seen walking into a refrigerator in the market.
That's when police evacuated the store and called in a Special Response Team that was eventually able to convince 25-year-old Mark Dwayne Simmons to surrender.
Police said Simmons had stolen $90.00.
Simmons is being charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, altering firearm identification, attempted felony murder – among other charges.
The Guthrie was taken to Ryder Trauma Center. His condition is unknown at this time.
