Approved: Miami Beach Ban On Alcohol Sales After 2 A.M.

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) -- Miami Beach commissioners have approved a ban on selling alcohol past 2 a.m.
According to our news partners at the Miami Herald, the ban will prohibit Miami Beach sidewalk cafes from selling alcohol from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m.
The places impacted would have last call at 1:30 a.m. Thirty minutes later, there would be a cut off for consumption.
The ban will take effect starting Saturday, May 30th.
Many of the places affected include sidewalk cafes along Ocean Drive on South Beach like Mangoes and Clevelander since they stay open the latest.

Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine touted the unanimous approval as a first step for cleaning up Ocean Drive.
The ordinance passed is the scaled down version of Levine's original proposal. He had originally proposed to stop alcohol sales at 2 a.m. in all outdoor areas.
CBS4's Cynthia Demos found most of the revelers were not happy about the new ordinance but it seems like the majority of the businesses were happy about it.
