NEW YORK (CBSMiami/AP) —  Tech giant Apple says sales for their latest iPhone may surpass sales of last year's record sales of $10 million during its first weekend.

The company started taking preorders for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on Saturday. The new models will go on sale at stores and online on Sept. 25th.

Last year, Apple sold more than 10 million units of its previous model in the three days after they went on sale, a record for a new model.

Shares of Apple Inc., based in Cupertino, California, rose $2.01, or 1.8 percent, to $116.22 Monday.
