Another Cousteau Conducting Ocean Research In Fla.
MIAMI (CBS/AP) - South Florida marine enthusiasts and fans of ocean exploration pioneer Jacques Cousteau should be on the lookout for his grandson's visit.
Philippe Cousteau Jr. and his organization EarthEcho International are in Florida to raise awareness about the effects of pollution on marine resources. He will also conduct field research with his team, while meeting with students and local community leaders.
Starting Tuesday, Cousteau and his team will cultivate staghorn coral with Miami middle school students and talk with U.S. government scientists monitoring coral growth. He'll also be joined by students and educators from Colombia, Ecuador and Peru to reintroduce native plant species in storm water treatment areas.
Cousteau comes from a famous family of filmmakers, advocates and explorers. Earlier this summer, Philippe Cousteau's cousin Fabien Cousteau spent 31 days living in an undersea laboratory in the Florida Keys.
