MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Missing man's best friend? There's an app for that.

Miami-Dade Animal Services will become the first shelter in Florida to have dogs registered in the free "Finding Rover" app.

The app uses facial recognition to help owners find their lost pooch.

Finding Rover features a lost and found dog notification system that sends a push notification and social feed photo alert if a dog is lost or found within a 10 mile radius.

If a user spots a lost dog, he/she can take a photo either within the app or upload a photo for a device's photo album.

Once a dog has been found and identified, using the facial recognition software, the finder will receive information on how to notify the owner.

For more information, watch the app's video or visit the Animal Services' website.
