American Air To Offer Daily Flights To Cap-Haitien, Haiti

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Beginning this October, American Airlines will begin offering daily flights to Cap-Haitien, Haiti from Miami International Airport.

According to the airline, which is based in Fort Worth, Texas, Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe said the Cap-Haitien route "represents a tremendous opportunity for significant economic impact" by connecting Miami with Haiti's second-largest city.

The route joins the airline's current nonstop service from Miami to Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince.

Cap-Haitien is located on Haiti's northern coast. Airline executive Art Torno in a statement called the new service "an important catalyst to develop the north coast and open up this historically significant destination."

Airline officials said the new route, which goes into effect October 2nd, will be operated with a Boeing 737-800.
