MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An alligator was captured off the Jetty rocks at South Point Park in South Beach.

It was around noon Sunday when the gator was spotted in the waters just off the Jetty, prompting Florida Fish and Wildlife to capture it.

"I probably don't have the right line for him," joked a fisherman at the pier.

Florida Fish and Wildlife and Miami Beach Police made multiple attempts to capture the gator from the pier but failed. But from the rocks, with the help of some bystanders, it was pulled out of the water and turned over to an alligator trapper.

Officials said the gator was most likely lost, as they live in fresh water but can survive for a short time in salt water.
