WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBSMiami) -- It's a big day for both sides of the political aisle as caucuses begin in Nevada and primary voting is underway in South Carolina.

South Carolina Republicans are casting their votes in the nation's first-in-the-South primary. Three GOP hopefuls have dropped out of the race since New Hampshire's primary more than a week ago: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former tech executive Carly Fiorina, and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore.

Nearly every poll has front-runner Donald Trump ahead by double-digits over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio hopes a rather positive performance at Saturday's debate in New Hampshire can give him momentum while former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has pulled out all the stops lately to stay relevant.

In Nevada, it's still neck and neck between Democrats Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, though early indications have pointed to Clinton edging out Sanders by a few points. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley suspended his bid after the Iowa caucuses earlier this month.

Nevada is the third Democratic nominating contest so far and has 43 delegates in total.

20 are superdelegates, eight of which are unpledged and 12 are pledged already. The remaining 23 delegates is what's up for grabs on Saturday.

After Nevada, both candidates will have a week to campaign in South Carolina.
