MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Authorities have announced the arrest of a man at Miami International Airport attempting to smuggle heroin into the country.

Federal agents said the man was discovered with 7.7 lbs of heroin, worth an estimated $210,000 street value. The suspect was a passenger on a flight from Colombia.

Agents said an inspection uncovered inconsistencies in the passenger's purpose of travel to Colombia, including unusually heavy bags when emptied.

Inside the bags, agents found hidden compartments filled with a white, powdery substance, later identified as heroin.

"CBP officers work diligently 24/7 every day of the week to prevent the smuggling of illicit drugs from entering our nation," said Miami International Airport Port Director Christopher Maston.

The passenger was taken into custody without further incident.
