MIAMI (AP) — Animal Services officials have removed 42 Chihuahuas who were crowded into a private home in northwest Miami-Dade County.

Officials said Thursday the dogs were evaluated by veterinarians and found to be in good condition. Animal Services is putting the Chihuahuas up for adoption.

The unusually large number of dogs in the home appears to have resulted from uncontrolled breeding. Miami-Dade Animal Services Director Alex Munoz says that is a major contributor to the large number of homeless pets in the area.

Alex Munoz says it's important to have pets spayed or neutered.
