Woman fatally struck after exiting car following I-95 crash in Oakland Park
FORT LAUDERDALE - One person died in a multi-vehicle accident involving a rollover on I-95 in Oakland Park early Friday morning, officials said.
It happened in the northbound lanes just south of Commercial Boulevard. Originally, four left lanes and the express lanes were closed to traffic for the investigation and vehicle removal. Just after 7 a.m., all northbound lanes between Oakland Park Boulevard and Commercial Boulevard were closed.
The lane closures snarled traffic for miles.
Oakland Park Fire Rescue said six vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol said it appears there were two different crashes. They said one of those involved said he was speaking with a woman, standing outside the vehicle after an initial crash, when a secondary crash occurred. The woman, who was struck by one of the vehicles, was taken to Broward Health North where she died.
Two others were also taken to the hospital.
After nearly five and a half hours, the closed lanes were reopened to traffic.
