Firefighter Killed In Motorcycle Collision Identified

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- An off-duty Miami-Dade firefighter died in an overnight motorcycle accident.

That firefighter has been identified as Steven English.

The crash took place at Northwest 27th Avenue and 167th Street in Miami Gardens.

According to Joe Sanchez from the Florida Highway Patrol, English  was traveling northbound on 27th Avenue when he collided with a pickup truck.

He was transported by air rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he later died.

It has not been determined if alcohol was a factor or who was at fault, said Sanchez.

Miami-Dade Fire Chief Dave Downey posted on his Facebook page, "It is with a heavy heart that I announce the untimely passing of our Brother Firefighter Steven D. English. Steve was hired by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue on June 26, 1995. He served this department and the citizens of Miami-Dade County with pride and distinction for over 19 years. Steve also served as an MDFR Driver Training Officer for 4 years. On behalf of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Family, I extend our thoughts, prayers and condolences to Firefighter Steven English and his family. He will be missed."
