Small plane makes emergecy landing on Broward roadway

MIAMI - On Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration's preliminary incident report said the small plane that landed on a Broward roadway on Monday "experienced engine issues."

CBS News Miami made multiple attempts throughout the day to speak with the manager of XFlight Academy while trying to locate the pilot who made such a spectacular landing. We have yet to hear back.

Earlier in the day, authorities released 911 calls regarding the incident.

This is one that was placed by the Pompano Airport Tower, "I have an aircraft in distress. He's about 10 miles northwest of Pompano in the Coral Springs area.  Green Cessna that may be landing on the road.  He's got two souls on board."

A witness, who called emergency services, said, "I saw the plane.  It was coming in too low.  I pulled over, and he just missed the light post... then he crashed into a tree.  Luckily, they're all alive."

On Monday night, investigators collected evidence after a single-engine Cessna 150 airplane made an emergency landing on Hillsboro Boulevard and Nob Hill Road in Parkland.

"I look in the sky and saw this plane lower than they usually go," said Gomingos Malfaggi.

Cell phone video capturing the moment the plane went down.

According to officials, the emergency landing happened around 3:30 Monday afternoon, after taking off from Xflight Academy at Pompano Beach Airpark.

"I was in my backyard, and I was looking out the window and I saw the plane just coming down, and then it almost hit this and instead of going in the road because there was a bunch of cars, it went over there and crashed into the trees," said Joshua Fliegel.

"It was flying by, and it hardly dodged the light and then it was like trying to turn and it hurt the curb and it bounced into a bush," said Tyler Boothe.

2 uninjured as small plane makes emergency landing on Broward roadway

Officials say two people, a man and a woman, who are both pilots, were inside of the plane when it landed.

We caught up with a man who told us his daughter was the woman in that plane.

"It's a miracle — they were able to turn around, they were over the Everglades, they lost power and flew back down," said the man, who didn't want to be identified.

Officials say it appears engine failure is the cause of the malfunction and that one of the people on board sustained a minor cut during the emergency landing.

"I was able to talk to both of them, they're both pilots, they're both doing very, very well. They're thankful the outcome was as good as it was. This is a very busy roadway and again, they were able to navigate over the top of the traffic signal here and we're able to make it down the road and avoid any cars on the roadway. So, it may not appear so, but this is a very successful emergency landing," said Deputy Chief Mike Moser with Coral Springs Fire Rescue.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating this incident.
