2 Airlifted To Hospital After Serious Head-On Collision In Hialeah

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Two people had to be airlifted to Jackson Ryder Trauma Center following a head-on collision in Hialeah on Monday afternoon.

Hialeah Fire and Rescue officials said it happened just after 5 p.m. at W 14 Lane and W 60th Street.

A neighbor gave CBS4 News cellphone video showing neighbors running to the rescue.

In the video, many gathered around one of the black cars to help someone who was trapped.

"Everybody was trying to help before the cops came. I guess they couldn't get him out of the car," Angie Profera said. "Everybody wanted to help. But we were in shock. Everybody was in shock."

She lives yards away from the scene. She described the moment she heard the crash.

"The house was shaking. We heard a Big Bang, like a bomb. Yes. We thought it was our cars," Profera said.

Somehow both vehicles involved ended up in front of a home. The cars damaged the home's front gate, damaged a street sign, and left car parts and glass in the street.

An 18-year-old female and a 50-year-old male had to be airlifted as trauma alerts to Jackson Ryder, where their current condition is unknown.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Police have not released the identities of those involved in the crash.

No other injuries were reported.
