2 Cases Of Chickenpox Reported At FAU

BOCA RATON (CBSMiami) - Florida Atlantic University officials announced Monday that two cases of chickenpox have been found on the Davie campus.

The school didn't say in the announcement whether the cases were from students or faculty.

Chickenpox is a contagious disease that spreads from person-to-person through direct contact, droplet, or airborne spread of respiratory tract secretions.

Symptoms of chickenpox include a sudden fever, body weakness, and loss of appetite. About 24 hours later, an itchy rash begins no the back/chest and spreads to other areas.

FAU said anyone with chickenpox should stay home until the illness has subsided and all scabs are dry. Even then, students must also have a note from a health care provider saying they are non-communicable.
