BSO: 18-Year-Old Killed In Crash, Second Driver Arrested For DUI

TAMARAC (CBSMiami) – A 40-year-old man is behind bars for DUI after being involved in a crash early Sunday morning where an 18-year-old was killed.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Conan Acevedo was driving west on West McNab Road in an Isuzu Rodeo SUV when he drove through a red traffic signal at NW 70 Avenue.

BSO said Acevedo's Rodeo T-boned a Honda Civic sedan driven by Nicolas Garcia, who was headed south on NW 70 Avenue.

BSO Air Rescue rushed Garcia to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies said Acevedo refused treatment on the scene.

Investigators said Acevedo exhibited signs of impairment and was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.18. He was subsequently arrested.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
