Xena Finally Comes Out Of The Closet In 'Warrior Princess' Reboot

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) - A producer of the rebooted series "Xena: Warrior Princess" has confirmed that Xena will be played as a gay character.

The reboot's screenwriter and executive producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach confirmed in a post on Tumblr that he plans to bring the show back "for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown sub-textually in first-run syndication in the 1990s."

Long rumored to be gay, the character of Xena - previously played by actress Lucy Lawless - may now finally cross that threshold and openly explore those not-so-subtle overtones with her sidekick Gabrielle from the original series.

The original series ran for six seasons between 1995-2001.
