Wyland Celebrates 2nd Annual 'Water Is Life' Classroom Art Contest
STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Renowned artist and philanthropist Wyland visited the KCAL9 studios Monday to talk about the 2nd Annual Wyland National "Water Is Life" Classroom Art and Mural Challenge.
The challenge gets underway Sept. 25 through Nov. 25 under the theme, "Our Ocean".
Students in all grades are invited to work individually or together on a classroom mural to depict current issues related to the ocean. Students are encouraged to write an artist statement and share their murals at schools and community centers to raise awareness about conserving the ocean, marine life, and maintaining the health of our coasts.
As part of the program over the last two years, the Wyland Foundation and its partners have donated classroom art supplies, including canvases, brushes, paints, and teacher lessons to schools in more than 400 cities.
"As schools are taking arts and sciences out of the classroom, the Wyland Foundation is working to put more in," said foundation executive director Steve Creech.
Fans and participants can meet Wyland on Saturday, Sept 27, from 5-9 p.m., at SWEET Hollywood, 6801 Hollywood Blvd, Suite 201.
