Wrightwood Area Welcomes Snow, But It Didn't Last For Long

WRIGHTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The Wrightwood area welcomed some snow overnight, but it didn't last for long.

KCAL9's Tom Wait reported that the dusting of snow came too little and too late at Mountain High Resort, which has been shut down since early last month.

"I actually worked up there this season. I was working at the mountain. It was tough," Kelsey Merline of the Wrightwood Chamber of Commerce said.

Merline said business in the area has taken a hit because of the drought and the recent snow is doing little to help.

"This kind of snow…it doesn't really bring people to the town because it's not sticking as much," he said.

Wrightwood residents and merchants hope the other attractions lure people to the town.

"There's very, very good hiking and mountain biking and really nice walking trails," Elizabeth Gamez said.

"I like the summer more because we have lots of hiking and camping options, where it's like, if you go farther past Mountain High there's about 20 campgrounds around there," Merline said.

The owner of Grizzly Manor Café in Big Bear said he's been thankful for the loyal support from his customers.

"This year has been pretty lackluster in the snow area, but we've been very, very blessed," Leo Hordyk said.
