Would-Be Eagle Scout To Try To Trap Birds Of Prey At LAX
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A would-be Eagle Scout is hoping to catch some real-life birds of prey at LAX.
Los Angeles International Airport says in a statement that on Thursday a Boy Scout troop from Palos Verdes Estates will place a trap at the airport designed to catch and relocate birds of prey, including red-tailed hawks and barn owls.
The project is part of one Boy Scout's attempt to reach elite Eagle Scout status by reducing the number of bird strikes experienced by planes taking off and landing from LAX.
The boys plan to use a Goshawk trap, which can safely capture birds of prey, allowing them to then be banded and taken to a rehab center for relocation.
