Only On 2: Woman's Dying Wish To See Her Son Get Married Is Fulfilled At Riverside Hospital

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A wedding at Riverside Community Hospital Friday was a little more emotional than usual.

Young Kim and Min Park walked down the aisle Friday to make their lifelong commitment to each other in front of friends, family and one particularly important guest – Kim's mother, who is battling an aggressive form of cancer. Her dying wish was to see her son get married.

"It is a difficult moment – for me it was an honor to do this. To fulfill the family's wishes and the patient's wish," said Chris Breyer, chaplain at Riverside Community Hospital.

The cancer left Kim's mother weak and doctors believe she may not have much time. Her dying wish was that her son and his bride fly in from Korea where they live, and get married here, so she could be there.

"Her desire was to go to Korea to see her son get married and that's not going to happen," Breyer said. "So to facilitate that, so she can actually partake and witness her son get married, is a special thing."

Kim and his bride were happy to grant his mother her wish.

"Really special right now," Kim said. "My mom's condition is kind of bad, so she is not in the condition to go to Korea and join the wedding.

Kim is hoping this moment will bring his mother new joy.

"I just want to give some boost and energy to her," Kim said.
