O.C. Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Killing Wife, 73

MISSION VIEJO (CBSLA.com) — An Orange County man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing his 73-year-old wife whose body was found inside a Mission Viejo home.

Deputies responded to the home in the 27000 block of Pueblo Nuevo Drive about 12:35 p.m., the Orange County Sheriff's Department said in a written statement.

When deputies arrived, they found the body of a woman they later identified as Barbara Parsons of Mission Viejo.

Deputies said the suspect called police and indicated he had killed his wife, according to the statement.

The suspect was later identified by authorities as Gary Lee Parsons of Mission Viejo.

"Responding deputies arrived and detained Gary as he sat in his vehicle, parked in front of the residence," the statement said.

The couple has three adult children, neighbors said.

"I'm really shocked because nothing ever happens in this neighborhood," Shelly Kaufman, a neighbor, said. "We didn't know them that well. Just to say 'Hi' to as we walked by. But I never saw anything at all. It's all very surprising and shocking."

A motive for the killing was not known.

Parsons was booked into Orange County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail. He was expected to appear in court Feb. 5.

Anyone with additional information about this case was asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Department at (714) 647-7000 or (714) 647-7044.
