Woman Struck, Killed While Running Across 101 Freeway

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday on the Hollywood (101) Freeway as she apparently tried to run across the roadway.

The fatal collision on the southbound 101, near the Silver Lake off ramp was reported at 5:40 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Polizzi said.

The identity of the woman, who was in her 50s, was withheld pending notification of kin.

The driver who hit the woman stopped at the scene, Polizzi said.

No stalled vehicles were seen in the area, authorities said, so it's not known why the woman ran across freeway lanes.

The fatal crash shut down the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes and tied up freeway traffic for miles. The CHP declared a SigAlert at 6:05 a.m., Polizzi said.

The freeway was cleared at 8:46 a.m. and the SigAlert was canceled, he said.
