Woman Shot By Police Officer Charged For Pointing Gun During Fight
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman who was shot by a police officer after allegedly pointing a gun during a fight the day after Christmas was charged Tuesday with several felony counts of assault with a firearm.
Diamond Shirley Vargas, 47, of Los Angeles, was shot in a leg following the confrontation last Friday in the parking structure of the Hollywood & Highland center. Los Angeles police were sent to the scene after a security officer reported a fight in the structure.
Vargas was charged with a half-dozen felony counts of assault with a firearm. According to the criminal complaint, Vargas has prior convictions from Orange County in 1991 for assault and robbery.
If convicted as charged, Vargas faces more than 30 years in prison.
An arraignment date was pending due to medical issues, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
