Woman Says Her 81-Year-Old Father Was Put In Chokehold, Beaten During Home Invasion Robbery

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A woman says her 81-year-old father was placed in a chokehold during a violent home-invasion robbery in San Bernardino.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Wednesday at the home in the 2900 block of North Los Feliz Drive.

Darla Bonine, the daughter of the victims, told KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold that the incident unfolded after her father, Gene, answered a knock at the door.

She explains that two men had claimed that they lost their ball in his back yard and asked for help. When he turned to get the ball, the men allegedly jumped him.

"They put a chokehold on him. They were beating him in his face. And dragged him back into the house," she explained.

Bonine says her 78-year-old mother Patsy already had a fractured neck and begged the assailants to stop.

Bonine said: "They kept telling [my mother] to shut up. Shut up. I'm the nice one. The other ones will hurt you worse." She told Weingold that her mother even told the assailants where to find jewelry and cash hoping they would leave.

Bonine arrived just minutes after the violent incident after one of her parent's medical alert devices went off, putting both her and authorities on notice that something was wrong.

Police believe the couple was attacked by at least two men. Anyone with more information about this case was asked to call San Bernardino police.
