Woman Pistol-Whipped, Tied Up In Perris Home-Invasion Robbery

PERRIS (CBSLA.com) — A 65-year-old woman was pistol-whipped and tied up during a home invasion robbery in Perris, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. Sunday in the 18000 block of Cable Lane in the Mead Valley area.

Detectives say three suspects initially knocked on the front door and asked for a person who does not live at the house.

After the woman said they were in the wrong location, the men "left the front porch, however; minutes later returned and kicked in the front door to the residence," Sgt. Glenn Williams said.

The armed suspects, described only as three black men, ransacked the home in search of cash and jewelry before fleeing the scene, he added.

The victim was injured and rattled but recovering Tuesday.

"She looked a little pale, but that's because she got hurt and probably lost quite a bit of blood from that," neighbor Kristin Rodo said.

Neighbors worry the victim's home has been a target of burglars the past two years because the residence is not fully visible from the street.

"Everybody is nervous. It's not the sort of thing that happens. It's been a quiet neighborhood," Lori Sizemore said.

The neighborhood watch says the group is now looking to spend thousands of dollars to install cameras.

"People are talking about going out and buying guns and taking lessons on how to use them. This is a neighborhood where we never locked our doors," said Ellen Brasee, a member of the Neighborhood Watch.
