Woman Armed With Knife Shot, Killed By Police In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA) — A woman armed with a knife was fatally shot by police in Long Beach.

Officers were called out to a family dispute between a mother and daughter in the 200 block of Molino Avenue at about 10:20 p.m. Sunday. Officers had already been called to the residence less than an hour earlier, but had determined at that time that no crime had been committed.

The woman told officers returning to the home that her daughter was armed with a knife and was threatening her. The officers at the scene say they could hear the altercation from outside.

An officer got into the home through a broken window and found the daughter armed with a utility knife, police said. When the officer saw the daughter try to stab her mother, police say that's when the officer-involved shooting occurred.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but the daughter was pronounced dead.

The utility knife was recovered. The mother sustained minor injuries, but did not require medical attention, police said.

The woman's name has not been released.
