Woman killed by gunfire in a South LA apartment building

An investigation is underway after a woman was fatally shot in her South Los Angeles apartment Monday evening. 

Los Angeles Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene in the 10000 block of Avalon Boulevard, just south of Century Boulevard, at around 11:35 p.m.

Upon arrival, they learned at least one suspect had fired shots at the apartment unit. They found one woman suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. 

She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Information was not immediately available on the identity of the woman killed. 

There was no suspect description and the motive is unknown. 

Officers said that there were several bullet casings at the scene, and others in the apartment were not injured.
