Investigation Continues Into Deadly Donut Shop Crash In Gardena

GARDENA (CBSLA.com) — Police Wednesday investigated the circumstances surrounding a traffic collision that killed a 30-year-old woman and injured four others.

Around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, crews were sent to the intersection of Western and Marine avenues, for report of a vehicle into a donut shop, according to the Gardena Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located one car partially inside of the Donut King II shop.

Paramedics transported five patients to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

A Huntington Park woman was listed in critical condition, however, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Police said the four other victims sustained minor injuries in the collision.

A preliminary investigation revealed two vehicles collided and slammed into the shop.

"Both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time," said Lt. Vince Osario. "This caused the crash. The force of the crash pushed both vehicles into the donut shop."

The shop was open at the time of the crash, however, no injuries were reported from inside of the building.

According to police, there was no indication of drugs or alcohol involved in the accident.

The intersection of Western and Marine avenues was closed, and a SigAlert was declared by the California Highway Patrol to allow for an investigation to be conducted.

Officials said the SigAlert was lifted shortly after midnight.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Fire Department at (323) 881-2413.
