Woman Gives Birth On 91 Freeway To 11-Pound Baby

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A woman gave birth early Saturday morning on the 91 Freeway with her husband assisting in the delivery and the couple's three young children in the backseat of their Chevy Tahoe.

The baby weighed 11 pounds 6 ounces.

Sandra Vilchez, 29, placed an emergency call from a vehicle near the Kraemer Boulevard exit at 4:18 a.m. She gave birth just before the arrival of paramedics.

"There were no complications listed on the notes or on the call," the dispatcher told City News Service.

By the time paramedics arrived, it was already time to cut the umbilical cord.

Paramedics took the mother and infant to Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center, the dispatcher said.

KCAL9's Erica Nochlin said the father -- 35-year-old Bolivar Vilchez -- had to pull over and assist in the delivery.

Nochlin reported that mom, dad and baby were all doing fine.

The mother told Nochlin her water broke and little (okay, not so little) Savannah's head appeared minutes later.

The couple's three previous children all took their time to arrive. The family had been en route to her mother's house in Downey, Sandra thought she had plenty of time.

"I can't believe this is happening to me," said Sandra, "It was shocking, honestly shocking. It was like out of a movie."

"Nothing could prepare you for this," said Bolivar.
