Woman Dies Day After South LA Hit-And-Run That Also Killed Husband

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman has died Wednesday from the injuries she sustained in a hit-and-run crash that killed her husband, authorities said.

Cristeta Evangelista, 76, died at a hospital about 1:45 a.m. from the injuries she sustained in a crash Monday night in the 400 block of West 54th Street, near the Harbor (110) Freeway.

A car had collided with a Range Rover that then careened into the bus stop, fatally injuring Florenio Evangelista, 78, of Los Angeles, who died at a hospital a short time later, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

A third person was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

The victims were sitting at the bus stop when the driver of the Range Rover made a right turn into a nearby driveway and was struck by the suspect vehicle, Los Angeles police Officer Mike Lopez said. The driver of the Range Rover remained at the scene.

After the crash, the driver of the car that hit the Range Rover got out and ran off, leaving the vehicle behind, Lopez said.

Anyone with information about the crash can call (877) LAPD-247.
