Winemakers Fighting To Stop Ban On New Malibu Wineries

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — Winemakers in Malibu are fighting to stop a ban on new vineyards in the area.

A portion of land along the Malibu coast and canyons were recently granted the status of an American Viticultural Area.

Having "AVA" on the label gives the wine more credibility in the industry.

However, changes approved by the California Coastal Commission in April will prohibit any new agricultural development, including vineyards, in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

The Commission's final vote on the new rule is scheduled for next Tuesday.
