One Found Dead In Wilmington RV Fire

WILMINGTON (CBSLA) – A person was found dead in a burning RV in an industrial area in Wilmington early Tuesday morning.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to the 200 block of West E. Street at around 7:20 a.m. to find a parked motorhome fully ablaze, with flames and smoke shooting hundreds of feet into the air. The victim was discovered deceased inside. The person was not immediately identified.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames before it could spread, LAFD said. There were no other injuries.

Employees from nearby businesses told CBS2 they heard explosions coming from the motorhome, which had been parked on the block for several weeks. A resident said a man appeared to be living in the RV.

Arson detectives were looking at security video which appeared to show a man on a bike in the area at the time of the fire, LAFD said. The cause remains under investigation.

Police dogs will be used to determine if any accelerants or explosives contributed to the fire. The coroner was also called to the scene.
