In 2013, his remains were found and returned to Mrs. Gantt.

A photo of her on the tarmac at Los Angeles International Airport receiving her husband's flag-draped casket was featured in more than 100 major daily newspapers around the world. It's been named one of the 60 most powerful photos ever taken that captures the human experience.

Mrs. Gantt said that was a day she long lived for.

"I was praying to the Lord," she told CBS2/KCAL9, "to let me live to see the closure with my husband."

Mrs. Gantt was 97 years old when she died. She never remarried.
