Suspect Injured, Another In Custody Following Officer-Involved Shooting Near South Whittier

WHITTIER (CBSLA) — A suspect was shot by a Los Angeles Police Department officer in an unincorporated area near Whittier Tuesday evening and two other suspects were in custody.

The shooting occurred just after 5 p.m. near Beaty Avenue and Laurel Avenue, according to LAPD Officer Mike Lopez.

LAPD officers were in the area on an unrelated incident when they observed two males walking. According to the department, one of the males produced a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

One of the suspects was struck and taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The second suspect was taken into custody without further incident, according to police.

A firearm was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured.
