Westside Pavilion Reopens After Smoke Seen Coming From Underground Vault Nearby

WEST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities on Sunday reopened the Westside Pavilion mall in West Los Angeles, lifting an evacuation order that went into effect after smoke was observed earlier in the day coming from an underground power vault.

At around 9 a.m., fire crews responded to the scene, near the corner of Westwood Blvd. and Pico Blvd., where utility crews observed an underground vault was smoking.

Authorities closed a portion of the mall and a portion of Pico Blvd. while they investigated the incident. The entire mall, including Landmark Theatre, was closed temporarily as power was shut off.

The mall was reopened at around 1:30 p.m., but visitors were asked to avoid the Pico Blvd. entrance.

DWP reported that the incident may have been sparked by a cigarette.
