Body Found In Backseat Of Car Burning In Westminster

WESTMINSTER (CBSLA) — Firefighters putting out a fire burning in a stolen car in an industrial area of Westminster made a grisly discovery Wednesday.

Firefighters were called out to the 6400 block of Industry Way, behind a warehouse just down the street from the Westminster Mall, at about 2:40 a.m. on the report of a car fire. As soon as the flames were out, they discovered a man's body, which had been burned beyond recognition.

"Some of the body appears to be in the backseat and a portion of the trunk," Westminster police Commander Cameron Knauerhaze said. "The vehicle is so badly burned, it's hard to tell the configuration at this point.

The car had been stolen out of Garden Grove. It's not known how long it had been parked in the warehouse park.

Investigators remained on the scene throughout the morning, searching for witnesses and security camera footage.
