Westlake High Softball Coach Accused Of Sexual Assault

THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com) — The softball coach at Westlake High School has been arrested and accused of sexual assault, according to authorities.

Robert Frank Garza, 37, was arrested Thursday around 3 p.m., said officials.

Garza, a Newbury Park man,  is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual activities with a 15-year-old female student athlete.

The alleged crime was investigated by the East County Major Crimes Sexual Assault Unit. Detectives believe the incident occurred off-school grounds and while Westlake High School was on Spring break.

At the conclusion of the investigation, officials said Garza was arrested for a variety of sexual assault charges involving a minor.

Garza was booked into the Ventura County Detention Facility in Ventura.

His bail was set at $100,000. Garza is scheduled for arraignment  on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

According to the Thousand Oaks Acorn, Garza is also a coach for the boy's junior varsity basketball team.

Investigators are seeking the public's assistance in locating any other alleged victims.
