Elementary School Teacher Arrested On Suspicion Of Child Abuse

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A teacher at a Los Angeles elementary school has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse, school officials said Thursday.

Thelmo Garcia, a fourth grade teacher at Rosewood Elementary located at 503 N. Croft Avenue, was arrested Wednesday, according to a Los Angeles Unified School District spokeswoman Ellen Morgan.

Garcia was removed from the Rosewood campus earlier last month, Morgan said.

LAUSD officials are fully cooperating with the LAPD investigation, according to Morgan.

Crisis intervention counselors will be on campus Thursday for any students who might be affected by the arrest.

"We take these allegations very seriously," said Morgan in a statement. "The safety of students is L.A. Unified's highest priority."

No other details on the arrest were available.
