Wedding Dress Bonanza In Garden Grove Raises Money For Cancer Charities

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) —The Anaheim Marriott Suites in Garden Grove is opening its doors this weekend for a wedding dress bonanza that will raise money for those affected by cancer.

KCAL9's Michele Gile reports that the Brides Against Breast Cancer Nationwide Tour of Gowns will unload hundreds of designer and brand name dresses for discounted prices. In some cases, the dresses are 85 percent off of retail.

About half of the dresses are pre-owned, while others are from boutiques. All the gowns are donated by brides or businesses who believe in the cause against cancer.

"We offer support services that focus more on the psychosocial effects of the disease, people who have been impacted emotionally, nutrition classes," show manager Lori Hagey said.

"Everyone has been affected by the disease. And everybody knows somebody and has family members or friends who have all been affected. It's kinda heartbreaking that all of these dresses…somebody has been touched by cancer," volunteer Julianne Yarbraugh said.

Brides Against Breast Cancer, which raises $2 million a year, does more than 120 traveling charity shows each year.

The sale begins Friday evening and runs through 5 p.m. Saturday.
