Watts Community Pool Reopens After Nearly A Decade

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — After nearly a decade, the pool at 109th street in Watts has finally reopened.

The pool was shutdown just one day after it opened back in 2008 after a rowdy gang of 30 men attacked lifeguards, the pool manager, and families at the pool.

"It's cool, it's nice, it's a lot of people enjoying it, I like to see people like that," Watts resident Matthew Isiah said.

It took eight years, and $4 million to rebuild the rec center, and now there's a huge pool and splash pad for little ones.

Police were close by keeping an eye on the facility in order to make sure what happened in 2008 does not happen again.

For the hundreds of families who have been desperately waiting for a safe place to take their kids, the pool couldn't have come at a better time.
