Water Main Break Floods Gardena Streets, Shopping Center
GARDENA (CBSLA) — Several streets were flooded in Gardena after a 12-inch water main ruptured overnight Thursday.
The break at Rosecrans and Vermont avenues was reported just after 11 p.m., Gardena police said.
Crews shut down one valve, but water continued to bubble out of the streets and sidewalks six hours later.

Three streets and a shopping center near the intersection were flooded, and eastbound Rosecrans is closed to traffic past Normandie. Before the early morning rush hour began, drivers were getting around the closure by cutting through the shopping center.
The water in a parking lot near a Jack in the Box restaurant was several inches deep, and the restaurant has been closed at times throughout the night and morning.
Officials say Rosecrans is expected to stay closed through at least 7 p.m. Thursday.
