Water Fire: Vehicles Destroyed, Outbuildings Damaged In Riverside County Fire

NUEVO (CBSLA) — No homes were lost after a brush fire erupted in the Riverside County community of Nuevo Wednesday morning.

The blaze broke out in the 26000 block of Water Avenue at around 7:19 a.m. Wednesday. It quickly grew to 5 acres. Mandatory evacuations were ordered for Water Avenue east of El Nido, Emerett Lane east of El Nido and Orange Avenue east of El Nido.

CAL Fire/Riverside County fire crews responded and extinguished the blaze by 9:30 a.m.

It damaged three outbuildings and destroyed two vehicles, but no homes were lost. There were no injuries, CAL Fire said.

Firefighters had to contend with 60 mile per hour Santa Ana winds.

During the fire, an evacuation center was opened at Perris High School.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
