Teen Who Went Missing From Walnut Found Safe In Whittier

WALNUT (CBSLA.com) — A high school freshman from Walnut who hadn't been heard from since Wednesday was found safe Thursday evening at a restaurant in Whittier, his family reports.

Kayne Doughty, 14, a student and athlete at Walnut High School, told his parents he had a meeting at school, but when they went to pick him up, he never showed. His parents later learned there was no meeting at school.

He called his family Thursday evening from a Burger King restaurant in Whittier and asked to be picked up, his grandmother said.

"His parents told everybody it's not like him," said Nicki Artezn, Kayne's grandmother. "We don't think he ran away."

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department had sent in search dogs and a helicopter to help with the effort but found nothing suspicious.

Investigators are talking to his parents to retrace his steps.
