Wal-Mart Seeks Permission To Test Home Delivery Service That Will Utilize Drones

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Wal-Mart is trying some modern new tactics to go head-to-head with Amazon.

The discount retailer applied for permission from U.S. regulators to test a home delivery service using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The company also plans to use drones for curbside pickup and warehouse inventories.

Wal-Mart says it has been running indoor tests using drones for several months, but wants to test the devices outdoors.

Amazon in 2013 unveiled its future plan to delivery packages by drone.
