The single-car wreck occurred in the 300 block of Vista Del Mar at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to El Segundo police.

The car, carrying two men, was taking a curve when it lost control and rolled several times, crashing into the fence of a Chevron refinery. The driver, a 75-year-old Hermosa Beach man, and his passenger, a 27-year-old Hawthorne man, were hurt.

The driver was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries. The passenger was also hospitalized with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said. Their names were not disclosed.

Police at the scene initially told CBS2 that a man had died in the crash, but that was later corrected.

El Segundo police shut down Vista Del Mar between Grand Avenue and 45th Street for about 18 hours due to a large debris field, according to police. While portions of it were intermittently reopened, the roadway was completely closed for most of Wednesday morning. It did not fully reopen until just after noon Wednesday.

The car involved in the crash is not an actual Shelby Cobra, but is in fact a replica, designed to look like it.

The cause and circumstances of the crash were not confirmed.
