Vigil Held In Fontana For 2-Year-Old Girl Who Allegedly Died From Neglect

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A vigil was held on Sunday night after 2-year-old Italia Cobb was found dead inside her Fontana home early last week.

"It's heartbreaking. Everything that has happened. It's heartbreaking," Chrystal Cobb, the victim's grandmother said as she donned mini mouse ears in honor of the fallen child's favorite character.

Fontana police say there was significant evidence of neglect and child abuse.

The child's mother, 20-year-old Cheyanne Cobb, and the child's step grandfather, 47-year-old Jon Palechek were arrested for felony child abuse causing death.

At the vigil, the family and neighbors came to pay their respects.

Erin Pavlik, a neighbor of the family, says she made a small memorial the night after Italia died, but she then saw the child's mother destroy it.

"To throw it away out of spite or whatever just makes you look guilty. It's a horrible thing. It's a community coming together to cherish and remember your baby," Pavlik said.

Charges are pending until the autopsy is complete.
